Peter Lye is the Global Head of Shipping for the Anglo American Group based in Singapore. Peter is responsible of all Anglo American Group ocean freight activity. Peter joined Anglo American in 2012 with a strong focus on enhancing the ocean freight activity within the Group across the three elements of safety, sustainability and commercial excellence. Today Anglo American Shipping handles over 70Mt of dry bulk cargo across 700 plus voyages per annum. Prior to joining Anglo American, Peter spent 15 years with Rio Tinto in various financial, commercial and marketing roles across a range of commodities, including thermal coal, coking coal and iron ore. Peter was Executive Head of the Rio Tinto Marine in Singapore from 2007 to 2011.
Anoop Singh is the head of tanker research for Braemar ACM Shipbroking. Braemar ACM research is a market-leading provider of business intelligence to the shipping and ship finance industries.
Anoop joined Braemar ACM in 2016 and is based in Singapore. He is responsible for global tanker modelling, forecasting and bespoke research and consultancy work. He is a regular presenter at industry conferences, focusing particularly on developments in the oil and tanker sectors. Prior to joining Braemar ACM, Anoop headed the strategy development and performance management team for AET tankers.
Kyriakos Mezopoulos is currently LNG Trader and Charterer for Aramco Trading Singapore (ATS). Previously he has held the positions of Director LNG for shipbrokers Affinity, and before that he spent 10 years with BP in trading and shipping roles for gas and refined products. He has experience in physical and derivatives trading, spot and term vessel chartering, vessel sales and purchase, and LNG infrastructure projects. He is a member of the Baltic Asia Advisory Council, he is a holder of the Energy Risk Professional Level II certification (ERP), and he co-authored the book ‘Ship Vetting and its Application to LNG’. He holds a MSc in Manufacturing from Cranfield University (UK) and a BSc in Industrial Management and Technology from the University of Piraeus (Greece).
James Marshall is the CEO and founder of Berge Bulk ltd. He began his career in shipping in offshore supply vessels, before moving to containers and then dry bulk. In 2007, he started Berge Bulk, purchasing 12 ships from the old Bergesen Fleet. Berge Bulk now owns and operates a modern fleet of 85 ships with a carrying capacity of 14 million dwt. In 2021 they transported 100 million MT of cargo. Berge Bulk is leading an innovative decarbonisation program and has committed to be carbon neutral by 2025 at the latest. It has already started carbon neutral voyages.
Fergus Eley is the Head of Maritime Enterprise at BHP and is passionate about delivering decarbonisation, technology and commercial solutions to improve global supply chains. Seafarers continue to play an integral role to keeping the global economy running – building health, safety and well-being of all front-line workers is at the forefront of this work. BHPs moves cargo along its commodity supply chain using bulk, break-bulk, wet and containerised freight. We have a leading role to play in decarbonising the maritime industry while driving safe and efficient business solutions.
Eric Jin heads BMT’s Investment Support Division for transport and infrastructure services. He used to be with the corporate centre management of Hutchison Port Holdings in Hong Kong and global management consultancy ICF. He has worked with key industry players, such as DP World and China Merchants, to develop master plans, feasibility studies and conduct market assessments, financial appraisals and commercial & technical due diligence of major transactions.
François-Xavier Accard is Managing Director of CMA CGM International Shipping Company, responsible for the safety and operational excellence of the CMA CGM Group’s Singapore fleet of vessels. In his previous role with Bourbon Subsea Services as Head of Fleet Operations and Performance, he oversees fleet performance which includes the financial results, corporate strategies and policies.
With over 15 years of logistics and shipping experience, Mr Accard ensures fleet operations are optimised for efficiency and profitability with safety as a main driver. He graduated from ENSTA Bretagne with an engineering degree in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering in 2005.
Serena is Project Manager in Drewry and a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. She has worked with different shipping and trading companies including BW, Eastern Pacific and Gazprom for 9 years prior to joining Drewry.
In Drewry, she has been working on different consultancy assignments focusing on tramp shipping market outlook, freight procurement strategy, freight modelling, and shipping strategy development. Serena is a postgraduate in maritime studies.
Choong Sheen Mao heads the commercial division of Equatorial Marine Fuel Management Services (EMF). EMF is a vertically integrated physical bunker supplier. In both 2020 and 2021, EMF was ranked by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) as the second largest bunker supplier by volume in Singapore. EMF owns and operates a fleet over 20 bunker tankers, and supplies an annual bunker volume of about 5 million tons. Sheen Mao is also spearheading EMF’s digitalisation and decarbonisation initiatives.Sheen Mao graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. Prior to joining EMF, he practiced as a shipping and international trade lawyer at one of the largest law firms in Asia.
Mr. Saunak Rai is heading “FueLNG”, a Joint venture of Shell and Keppel, a company providing LNG as bunkers to customers in Singapore. Under his leadership, FUELNG successfully performed first in Asia, simultaneous cargo and ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation with CMA CGM Scandola and first in the world, LNG Bunkering to LNG fueled Newcastlemax Bulk carrier Mount Tourmaline. He also led FueLNG to win the World LNG Award 2021 for Outstanding Contribution to LNG Industry at WORLD LNG AWARD at Rome in Dec 2021.
Saunak Rai graduated with President’s Gold Medal in Nautical Science from Mumbai University and has completed his Master’s in Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. Mr. Saunak Rai is a licensed Master Mariner and has extensive experience working on LNG vessels, Tankers, Bulk Carriers and Container vessels. He is also a certified Chartered Ship Broker and Fellow and Executive Committee Member of the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers. Saunak is also business Coach and Singapore Ambassador of Copenhagen Business School.
Sanjay has held various positions in the private and public sector across his career. Prior to joining GCMD, he was the Executive Director of the Singapore Maritime Institute which is responsible for funding maritime research projects with industry and building local capabilities in the maritime sector, an appointment in 2018 after more than 2 years as a Programme Director/Senior Scientist at the Energy Research Institute at the Nanyang Technological University (ERI@N) managing the NRF funded Smart Multi Energy System project.
He is currently a council member of the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (2011) and a member of MTI’s Pro-Enterprise Panel (2019). In 2020, he was also appointed to the Management Committee of Ecolabs, The Centre of Innovation for Energy, Advisory Board for Qi Square and District Councilor for the Central Singapore Community Development Council.
Hanwa is a Japanese integrated trading house with a yearly revenue around US$20 billion and is a physical supplier in Japanese ports.
Junya Ono joined Hanwa in year 2000 and started bunker trading from 2006. He was in-charge of Korean ports 6 years also overseeing ports in Japan, Russia, China, Hong Kong and so on. From 2015, Junya was promoted Manager of Tokyo Head quarter Bunker Section.
He moved to Hanwa Singapore in 2020 and is now a General Manager of Energy Dep, Chemical Dep in Hanwa Singapore.
Junya also obtained his MBA from a Japanese University in 2015.
Kai Cheong (KC) manages INTERTANKO’s marine and technical strategic work plan items and coordinates on the Association’s activities in North Asia. KC joined INTERTANKO after his secondment from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) from Sep 2020 to Apr 2022. As INTERTANKO’s Senior Technical Manager, KC is responsible for matters related to ship design, equipment, decarbonisation, surveys, port state control, human element etc. and associated regulatory matters. Prior to joining INTERTANKO, KC had worked in MPA after graduating from the University of Glasgow and Strathclyde as a Naval Architect since 2003. Over his career in MPA, KC headed the departments of Singapore ship registry, seafaring manpower and ship regulation development as MPA’s 2nd Deputy Director of Shipping Division. KC also holds an MBA from the ESADE Business School in Barcelona and MSc Offshore Engineering from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.
Akamatsu Takeo joined the Marine Department of ITOCHU Corporation in 1992 after university. Since then he has been working in the marine business mainly covering new building projects (including time as London representative from 2005 to 2010). In 2011, Akamatsu was assigned as Manager of Marine Section No. 3 for the investment of LNG Carriers and off-shore. In 2019, he further was assigned as Deputy General Manager mainly for the development of new businesses such as decarbonisation, and then, in 2021, assigned as Project Leader for NH3 Fuel Ship. Since April 2022 Akamatsu has taken on the new assignment of Deputy General Manager, Marine Department, ITOCHU.
Peter is currently head of Maersk’s East of Suez Oil Trading (MOT) team, responsible for the group’s physical bunker supply chain in Singapore and Malaysia as well as their fuel requirements across the remaining ports in the region. He is also the Maersk representative on the Singapore Shipping Association Marine Fuels Committee
He began his tenure with MOT in 2009 after spending the first 10 years of his career in FMCG Sales in his native New Zealand. Prior to his move to Singapore in 2017, he was responsible for MOT’s European trading, leading a team of 10 traders and operators. During his tenure in Europe, Peter expanded MOT’s bunker supply business in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam to Maersk group vessels as well as third-party customers.
Captain Walter P. Purio is a Director of the Pilbara Port Authority in Australia and is the Managing Director of P and H Marine Australasia Pty Ltd. and currently assists resource companies, financial institutions, shipping companies and their boards and executive teams to develop maritime strategies to provide LNG and sustainable marine fuel to their regions.
He was the inaugural CEO and is a Founder, and Founding Director of the non profit LNG Marine Fuel Institute. In 2021 Captain Purio was elected Chair of the Asia Pacific committee for the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel, a non governmental organisation with consultative status to the UN’s International Maritime Organisation. He serves as the Chair of Governors for the non profit Leeuwin Ocean Adventures Foundation, which provides at sea team building, collaborative learning and personal development onboard the sail training vessel Leeuwin for the youth of Western Australia.
Anastasia joined S&P Global Commodity Insights in 2021 as a Freight Analyst. Prior to joining S&P Global Anastasia spent six years analysing the crude and products tanker markets as a Tanker Analyst at Howe Robinson Partners and Galbraiths.
She has also completed a number of shipping related internships ranging from chartering and operations to shipping equity analysis at Halkidon Shipping Corporation, Navios Shipmanagement and Axia Ventures Group. Anastasia holds an MSc in International Shipping and Finance from ICMA Centre, University of Reading and a BSc in Economics from the University of Sussex.
Baoying Ng looks after strategic engagement and intelligence for global agriculture, metals, and shipping, and is also the APAC lead. Prior to this, she managed the global containers team. She also managed the EMEA petrochemicals team in London, and the Asia team in Singapore. Baoying has been with Platts for close to 10 years and was a broadcast journalist before that.
As Senior Commercial Director - South Asia at S&P Global Commodity Insights, Gauthier is a cross-commodities market expert. He has extensive trading experience covering energy, chemicals, metals, and agriculture products. Gauthier has been successfully managing and expanding global commodity trading and commodity data sales teams for the past 15 years.
Gauthier joined SPCI, formally known as Platts, to build and grow the commercial team covering the South-Asian region. The team is based out of the company’s newly opened Mumbai office and the Singapore regional HQ. The team is responsible for driving relationships across 300+ corporates, achieving revenue targets, ensuring users’ satisfaction and improving customer’s commodity intelligence by integrating SPCI’s data across workflows.
George is the Managing Editor for Global Container Freight at S&P Global Platts. He has worked on the Platts Containers desk since 2018, building and curating the offerings that Platts has, whilst pricing major trade lanes around the world for both container freight rates and their associated bunker charges. George also writes weekly and monthly reports on the current state of play in the container market, and regularly speaks at conferences and webinars around the world on these topics. Prior to this, George worked on the Agriculture desk at S&P Global Platts looking at the EMEA biofuels markets, alongside corn, wheat, and sugar markets.
Hugh Ong is the Asia Pacific head of Client Service, responsible for S&P Global Commodity Insights Client Service function. Hugh has over 15 years of Client Service experience in Energy Commodities. Based in Singapore, Hugh leads a diverse team of Client Service Managers across 9 different APAC cities, delivering best-in-class customer experience on the platforms and services our clients subscribed to, across the APAC region.
Prior to that, Hugh spent 7 years in the Internet Technology industry in various client facing roles including presales, technology design and solution delivery for enterprise security and infrastructure solutions.
Pradeep Rajan leads the team of editors based in Singapore who are responsible for S&P Global Commodity Insights coverage of the Asia Pacific shipping markets. He was the first tanker market editor to join the team, and was closely involved in the launch of the Dry Freight Wire – Platts’ first publication covering Capesize, Panamax, Supramax, Handymax and Handysize segments.
Pradeep has spoken extensively at S&P Global Commodity Insights and international oil and shipping forums and with the media. Prior to joining Platts, Pradeep worked for Singapore’s national newspaper – The Straits Times – as a financial journalist at its Money Desk. He has a Masters in journalism and mass communication from India’s University of Mysore.
He leads an integrated commodity analytics product management, data science and research team. As a business head, he is responsible for driving new product growth for our analytics products Commodities at Sea and Freight Analytics. A subject matter expert in the maritime industry and financial markets, Mr. Kapoor is a thought leader with proven credentials in market analysis forecasting, shipping economics and commodity market developments.
He is a regular speaker at major conferences and client events globally, and is frequently interviewed by both print and visual media. Most recently, he was at Bloomberg Intelligence and earlier headed Drewry Financial Research Services Ltd. He has also worked as senior equities analyst at RS Platou Markets and Nomura. Mr. Kapoor holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from BITS, Pilani and a Postgraduate in Management from IMI, New Delhi, India.
Rajesh is the managing editor for residual fuel markets for Asia and the Middle East at Platts in Singapore. He began to cover fuel oil in 2012, and was previously the LPG editor for Asia and Middle Eastern markets. He has also covered bunker fuels, gasoline, and Platts Forward Curve markets since joining Platts in 2008. Prior to that, Rajesh worked at various Mumbai-based publications, including the Business Standard financial newspaper.
Shriram Sivaramakrishnan is Managing Editor for the Asia Pacific Dry Bulk markets at S&P Global Commodity Insights. He is based in the Singapore office and has been with SPCI for close to seven years. Shriram comes with a background in trading shipping derivatives in his previous position with a dry bulk shipping company. He has a Master in Business Administration from India's Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning.
Surabhi Sahu is Senior Editor, Petroleum News at S&P Global Platts and has extensive knowledge of the oil and gas industry. She has presented at several industry events and moderated at various conferences. Surabhi has completed a Masters in Econometrics from University of Delhi, India.
Sonnich brings along 16 years of experience in the bunker industry. He started his career in OW Bunker in 2002 as Bunker Trainee and played an important part in the company growth, ending as Managing Director of the Singapore office. The office consisted of 70 people and was one of the biggest in the world.
Sonnich was the Head of Asia in Minerva Bunkers from 2014. In his role he was entrusted with the responsibility of conceptualizing and starting the Asia Bunker Desk, and to develop the overall direction of the Minerva organization. Sonnich brings with him vast experience in office management along with extensive bunker sales knowledge
Su Yin is currently the Commodity Manager for freight at Australian mining house, South32 where she is accountable for developing freight strategy across the group. Aside from managing the chartering and freight operations, she is also involved in developing sustainability strategy for the freight desk She is also the co-founder of the Maritime Pitch Challenge, Captain’s Table, a platform developed to power the future of maritime through connecting innovators in the startup space. Prior to this, she was a Partner at Ince, 14 years of experience in private practice in Singapore and Hong Kong and a Partner with Ince in Hong Kong. She has represented shipowners, charterers and financing banks in litigation and arbitration ranging from charter party to mortgage enforcement disputes.
Peter Sundara is the Head of Global Ocean Freight Product for the Global Logistics division at Visy Industries. Visy is a global leader in the packaging, paper and resource recovery industries, providing high quality, innovative, automation services and sustainable packaging products and solutions. Visy manufactures corrugated cardboard boxes, produces specialist printed and non-printed packaging, collects wastepaper, and operates paper recycling mills.
With 24 years of experience in container business and logistics, Peter Sundara has worked in both global container liner and 3rd Party Logistics companies like Agility Logistics, Scan Global Logistics and LF Logistics. With previous positions relating to Operations, Commercial and Trade Management, Sundara has resided and worked in countries such as Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UK and Vietnam. Despite his exposure to ocean freight supply chain, he also has a keen interest and exposure to technology and digitalization, having also worked for one of the premier digital freight forwarders, Flexport, where he headed its ocean freight procurement and operations in Asia.
Sanjay started his shipping career in 1981 as a Marine Engineer and served on board merchant vessels for over 14 years. He later served as a ship and industrial surveyor with Lloyds Register. Sanjay has been with Wartsila for over 20 years and has held various management positions in sales and business development. He is presently stationed in Singapore.
In his role as Director – Decarbonization Solutions at Wartsila Singapore, he is responsible for Market Innovation and developing sustainable shipping solutions. Sanjay believes that the time to wait and watch the plant being destroyed is over. We have to act, become advocates and start making choices which are kinder to people and the planet.
