Analyzing the resilience of your supply chains
Today’s fast-moving agricultural markets demand an intelligent supply chain to anticipate and react to changes.
Indeed, the war in Ukraine has led to a reduced capacity to supply certain agricultural feedstocks on top of already strained supply chains, driving up prices and placing pressure on production margins.
You need the full picture to make informed procurement, production and trading decisions and to protect your organization from unwanted exposure in your supply chains.
With supply chain analysis, we help you analyze the security of your supply chains and the complex risks posed by suppliers, products, pricing, regulations and more – to ensure resilience and provide you greater clarity in an increasingly interconnected agriculture market.

Challenge: A petroleum refining company wanted to gain a better understanding of how the refining and biofuels industries overlap one another, in particular the role of agriculture on biofuels. The client was considering the conversion of existing crude oil refineries to renewable diesel plants.
Solution: We first looked at the overall biofuels market, supply and demand dynamics, and policy fundamentals. We then incorporated outlooks for the agriculture and downstream oil industries as well as biofuels and policy considerations.
We developed models and scenarios specific to the refineries being evaluated for conversion, with the scenarios defined by projections of how the oil and agriculture industries might develop in the future.
Results: The information we provided helped support their decision to move forward with some refinery conversion projects.
Challenge: A specialty chemical company came to us to understand the potential market for second-generation biofuels and how their high-performance catalyst products could fit into the ethanol production process for that market.
Solution: Our approach was to break out the various components that influence the market.
Our first step was to look at the regulatory environment, the demand patterns for liquid fuels and key regional markets for cellulosic ethanol (as cellulosic feedstocks were the client’s main area of interest).
Next, we evaluated the availability and demand for multiple second-generation feedstocks in addition to cellulosic feedstocks in the key regions identified.
We combined these supply and demand views into an overall picture of the market. The client then could compare this view with their own internal data and processes to evaluate the market potential for their products.
Results: We provided the client with an extensive presentation of our findings, complete with backup data and the opportunity for the client to ask questions of our consultants. With these findings, the client could then evaluate the market potential for their products.
